Is there any defined way to alert users when any (or specific types of) new content has been added to the repository?

You can add a rule to the space(s) you want notification from and send an email to users when new content is added. In the web client in the More Actions menu for a space, select "Manage Content Rules".

This action is not available in Alfresco Community 2.1. Can you confirm ? How are we supposed to fulfill this need ?
