Multiple versions when copying over cifs

Hi,

I've noticed that sometimes multiple versions are created when copying a file over cifs. We have all documents set to versionable (with an automatic rule). How to avoid this?

How about some simple md5 check or binary compare, so that the new version is stored if it actually differes from the previous?

I have checked the alf_data directory and infact the file is stored only once per (real) version. I did another compare on some big document and it is listed 14 times (14 versions) in the gui, yet judging from the timestamps (and counting the file in the alf_data dir) only 8 different versions have been created. How can we prevent this space polluting, it seems unnecessary to have this many versions listed…is there some property we can change so that the version is bumped only when the file is really overwritten with the new version? The files are not directly edited on the cifs share, but are copied from/to the share when they change…

I'm experiencing the same problem.  I sometimes get 3 new versions created when I copy a new file over an existing one in Explorer on a CIFS mapped network drive.
