Multiple categories with same name at same level

Hi,

Could someone explain me why it is allowed to create categories with the same name at the same level. I don't mean technically, I mean functionnaly.

What is the goal of this feature ?

I don't understand this point.

It's not possible to create two categories with the same name… at the same level…
You can do two subcategories in two differents categories with the same name but not with the same parent node…

I don't really understand the question.
With version 2.1 i can't do it

I use 2.1.0.

Did you try it ? I was also convinced it was not possible until I have done it programmatically. Then I have tested using the interface and … it is possible.
(I have just done it just at once…)

So my question is still alive I think

Procedure using the interface:
  * Administration console
  * Manage categories
  * Create
  * Create a new category with name "a" for instance
  * Create it
  * Click Create menu
  * Use name "a"
–> You can see your 2 categories with same name.

Which mean for non french speakers that i can't duplicate children.
I can't reproduce your error. I've got the enterprise version here in test.

But it's not normal that you can do it

I don't try it programmatically cause my alfresco is light at the moment.

ok I've re-tested with a fresh installation of Alfresco 2.1 in case my module was breaking something and …….. it is still possible through the interface.

We may differ in the version we use. I have this version : (Community Edition) Current version 2.1.0 (482) schema 64 - Installed version 2.1.0 (482) schema 64. What is yours ?

mine is Version: Enterprise Network - v2.1.0 (112)
And my test version is the 2.2 night build so maybe it has been fixed…

But normally you can't create two children with same name. Either nodes or categories or anything else.

Maybe an expert could explain the problem or find what's the solution
