How do you create a Word document in the Alfresco Web Client without the need to toggle to MS Word and save the document in Alfresco WebDAV? Does anyone have a way around this?

You can use the content rules and open office to create MS Word documents.

1. Create two spaces; one for the original HTML document and one for the MS Word version.
2. Use the Content Rules wizard to create the following rule on the first space.
3. The condition is Items with mime type HTML
4. The action is "Transform and copy content to specific space". Specify Microsoft Word and and select the second space.
5. Save and rule.
6. Create HTML content in the first space using "Create Content" wizard using the HTML editor.
7. Save the content and it should be converted to MS Word document in the other space.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi, I Did the exact same thing..

Getting Error "A system error happened during the operation: No transformation exists between mimetypes text/html and application/msword"

Steps done.
1. Created a space and then created a rule

Rule Type:   inbound
Name:   HTML To Word
Description:   HTML To Word
Apply rule to sub spaces:   Yes
Run rule in background:   No
Disable rule:   No
Conditions:   Item is a subtype of 'Content'
Actions:   Copies content to 'Drafts' and transforms to 'Microsoft Word'

2. and then created a new content from the same space..
and when i click on finish i get the above mentioned error message.. That means either it is not converting the HTML pages to MsWord.. or is ther something wrong in my Rule..

Please assist.

Thanks
Riagarwal

I followed the steps above and it worked. What versions of MS Word and Alfresco are you using? We have MS Word 2007 and Alfresco Enterprise 2.2.

hi,
this isn't a question of which word version are used. the doc file should be generated via alfresco's transformation framework. You have to etablish a html–>doc transformation route, and this is IMHO done using Open Office. So, take sure that your open office connection is working.

Hi,
How do i check as to if the open office connection is open or not.

Moreover, i am creating the content from Alfresco 3.0. If possible please provide me with the detailed steps to perform this action..
Could be possible that i have also created various rules that might be conflicting while i am doing the step.

Thanks

Hi,
take a look in your log-file. Open-Office Connection is e.g. checked during startup. The simplest method checking if OpenOffice is working is:
-upload a doc file.
- go to details page (web client) of this doc.
- click run Action link
- create an action which transforms your doc to pdf.
- if this is working openOffice is doing its homework
Cheers, jan

Hi,
I am observing the following issue with Alfresco
1. Navigate to Alfresco webclient
2. Click Add content on My Home
3. Select a doc/docx file
4. Choose Upload

Observations
1. The file can be selected (docx)
2. On the next screen it suggests file is correctly attached
3. When click on OK the page seems to be loading for ever and the file doesn't appear in Alfresco

Thanks for any help or pointers
