Missing Edit (Pencil) Icon in Checked Out Document

I downloaded the Labs version 3.0.0 using Tomcat on Windows XP.  I am going through the tutorial (Alfresco-Tutorial.pdf).  On page 29 of the tutorial, we have checked out an html page in its original space.  The tutorial says, "Make some changes by editing the content (pencil icon) and check in the content."

There is no pencil icon.

Also, if I download the document, make changes, and check it in, the changes are not reflected.

I am able to change the document by doing this:

- Check it out.
- Download it.
- Make changes.
- Use the Update link.
- Check the document in.

I think something else is wrong, here, but I don't know what.

If anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear them.

Thank you.

Hi Mike,
check out the details (Dropdown menu -> View more details), if the "inline editing" mode is enabled. Your process is correct for all objects, which can not be inline edited, basically anything more than plain old ascii files (txt, html, xml …) *hmm .. a new acronym ? POAF … sounds like a Windows Vista box hitting scrap paper heap. 😉 *
