LDAP: Should a user be able to 'Change Password' thru UI?

Hi,

I've got Alfresco Labs 3D/stable installed on an Ubuntu box, configured and talking nicely to an OpenLDAP server on another machine over ldaps://

I've got chaining and synchronization setup and everything seems to be working pretty well. . . but when a user logs in, goes to their "User Profile" page and clicks "Change Password", I enter
  • original password (current ldap password)
  • new password
  • new password

  • And click "Submit". . . but I get a UI error "Please correct the errors below then click Finish. * The 'Old Password' you entered was incorrect." and nothing in my logs.

    So, 2 questions:
    1) Should a user be able to change their password through Alfresco, when Alfresco is authenticating to LDAP?

    2) Where should I be looking to see why this isn't working?
BTW - I've got wireshark running and when I click the "Submit" button on the change password form, Alfresco doesn't try to talk to LDAP at all.

And in case anyone thinks it's PEBUAK, I triple-checked the passwords as I was typing them in. . .it's definitely not my fat fingers.

So, FYI y'all…I opened a Jira ticket on this, and I guess the solution is to just hide the change password button…
