Is it necessary to install Alfresco as root user?

I have two questions:
a. Kindly let me know if it is necessary to install Alfresco 3.4.d as root user?
and,
b. Is it necessary to set SELinux disabled or in permissive mode?

Apparently, I find no problems when I am installing Alfresco as user other
than root. But as I intend to use it in a production environment, in the long run,
will there be some problem?

No its fine.    There's another discussion in these forums dicussing "how to".

Don't know much about SELinux but alfresco should always have permissions restricted to only allow read/write access to the alfresco account and possibly other accounts can have read access like the account which backs up.
