There is the option to see a windows Explorer with a virtual root (alfresco) where the documents all are in but where are they???

Where do i find the folder in the Windows Explorer?

If you did not change the repository directory that installs by default – it will most likely be in $ALFRESCO_HOME/alf_data

However, if you did – the location will be included in a properties file (in this case, if you installed tomcat):

$ALFRESCO_HOME/tomcat/shared/classes/alfresco/extension/custom-data-location.properties

It should be in a similar directory for JBoss.

(This is assuming a 1.4 installation – but I suspect the 1.3 as far as repository location)

If you look in the custom-data-location.properties file it will tell you where the files are saved. The properties file will give you the path and directory of ALL your files.

If you did not change the default settings. Go to the root directory of your alfresco installation. Then go to the alf_data directory. That is where all your files are stored.

Once again, go to that location to see the data stored on the fileserver.

As for what is stored in the database and fileserver. Any file that is uploaded, meta-data is extracted and much of that is stored in the database. Alfresco does this on it's own, and I suspect it is different based on the kind of file you upload (e.g pdf, .doc, .txt, etc..)

To get in to more detail, you would probably need someone from alfresco to tell you what exactly is stored in the database… But if you just want to see where the files are stored, go to the location I referenced above.

thnax but i looked on the tables in the database and there are links on the file server.that means that the real content is in the file server.

I don't think you are understanding what I am saying. The files are NOT stored in the database, the meta data is (I think).

Do you know where alfresco is installed?

Let us assume it is installed at c:\alfresco

Then look in c:\alfresco\alf_data

That is where your files are stored. Go to that directory. This is what I have been saying in all the posts

can u tell me something else what is the difference when i connect via cifs or via webdav?

i dont get it its the same? i can get access through the windows explorer to the folders.so whats the difference?

oh and is there a way how i can manage the access to the folders in the windows explorer?

because when i create a user with his homespace whatever i can connect via internet and the windows explorer oipens the folder whatever but i can go back and the the folder from the other users!!! what can i do?i dont see an option where i can change that because on the webclient u just manage the space users but you dont really manage them within teh windows explorer!
