I do an Edit Offline in the 3.2 version of Share on Suse Linux.  Gets checked out on the server and a working copy gets created on the server.  Seems to be in some of the Microsoft folders also.  Anyway, so I complete editing, save my changes and close the Excel file.  File is still checked out.  How do I check back in?  There is no option and I checked it out.

Thanks.

Wow that was brutal.  Please tell me this isn't the case.  On IE8 on Windows 7.  When I click "Edit Offline" a dialog pops up Download the Document using the Button below.  If I click it Excel opens.  Never asks me where to put the file.  So I save the file if I don't get a share violation and then assume it will checkin itself.  No joy but can't find anything other than a download button on the All Docs view.  Switch to Docs I'm Editing view and I can checkin a doc from system.  But where?  On the server there is a Working doc that has the same size as the original.  I find the file deep in my IE temporary internet files and the dialog that Alfresco pops up to allow you to select the file says I do not have permission to that folder, however I do so I move the file to a temp folder and can upload it.  Are users supposed to do this?  Brutal.

We can't control third party applications like Excel via IE8. Remember: as far as Excel is concerned, Share is just another web site and conversely, Share has no control over where Excel chooses to store downloaded documents.

Just because Microsoft makes it difficult to find documents downloaded this way, doesn't mean it's a usability issue on the application you're downloading from.
