Hello,

i ahve installed Alfresco 3.4.a on my local machine. Download source was http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Download_Community_Edition.

Installation went fine with all components and i soon could bet it to work. So i followed the getting started for the Web Quick Start and importet the example files and folders.

If i want to look at the webpage (http://localhost:8080/wcmqs/) i get a page with nothing in it. Looking in the files all index files are empty. There is no navigation implemented. I get the impression that the example filkes are incomplete.

regards Olli

Hi Olli,

When you say the install went OK, I assume you have added the dashlet and imported the Web QS site structure?  Can you navigate this structure within the Document Library successfully i.e. see blogs, news, publications etc?

Is the web application (wcmqs.war) running on port 8080?

Regards, Ben.

As i followed all steps successfully i have browsable folders in the document library of the page (by the way all index.html files are empty as i found out by downloading and opening in an editor).

And yes it runs on port 8080. Honestly i do not even know how to change the port on which it is running.

Kind regards Olli

It is correct that the index.html nodes are empty. This is expected.

I presume you used the Web Quick Start dashlet to import the data (it won't work if you manually import the ACP file). Is it just the home page that's failing, or do all pages fail? For example, if you point your browser at http://localhost:8080/wcmqs/blog/blog1.html then do you see anything different?

If not, it would be useful to understand precisely what steps you took to get it installed. Which document were you referring to?

Hi again,

if i open the link you posted i get the same error page as before. Amnd i used the dashlet to import as written below.

Here are the steops i followed:

via the http://www.alfresco.com/de/media/releases/2010/10/community-3.4/ Press Release i went to the download page.

I followed the installation isntruction in the http://wiki.alfresco.com/w/images/6/63/Alfresco_Community_3_4_a_Windows_Simple_Install.pdf document.

After the installation was completed i opened alfresco share http://localhost:8080/share/.

Then i followed the getting started with the following resources: http://www.benh.co.uk/alfresco/web-quick-start/web-quick-start-first-look/ and http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Web_Quick_Start_Installation_and_Configuration

That is what i did and the result is that i see nothing as you see.

Very strange. We have many people up and running with this, so we need to work out what's different.

When you say that you see nothing, do you mean that the screen is entirely blank? No Alfresco logo? Nothing at all? Do you have anywhere you can post screenshots that I'd be able to see? If you do, then it would be useful to see shots in Share and of the blank page.

Sorry to just keep bombarding you with questions, but I'm currently very unsure what could have caused what you're reporting.

Hello,

this morning i proceeded a complete4 new installation and finally get the same result. the page is not a blank page there is an alfresci - alfresco WCM Quickstart Logo on the top left and links to home and contact. followed by a line and the text:

Error
Sorry there seems to be a problem with this part of the page

followed by a line and a link to alfresco.com

So, you do not have to hurry finding a solution anyway - after the experience of the past week concerning alfresco, its installation its usage and mainly its documentation we will not follow the alfresco track any more.

Sorry to hear that, Olli.

I'm having the same issue that Olli was having. I did a default install of 3.4a and installed the Quick Start and I get "Sorry, there seems to be a problem with this part of the page" every time. I'm on Windows Server 2003 32bit.

I've tried installing it a few ways but I can't even get it to work leaving everything as default. Any suggestions? Anyone else having the same problems?

OK. There's clearly some kind of problem - it should "simply work".

Please would you confirm first of all that you are running it on localhost port 8080. Secondly, would you mind telling me what the default locale of your machine is?
