Getting Start with Alfresco

Hi there, I'm new to Alfresco and just installed the product on a Windows XP desktop. The installation program indicates I already have port 8080 used on my machine - so I choose a different port - 8085 to run Alfresco. After the install, I launch the Start_Alfresco and Start_Virtual Machine batch files. Both came up fine but I'm not able to get to http://localhost:8085/alfresco - keeps timing out. I cannot locate the alfresco.log file as well anywhere.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

8085 is a bad choice of port number since that's already used by Tomcat.   Choose another number.

Thank you for your kind assistance. I have reinstalled the instance - by uninstalling, deleting the files/folders and running the install from fresh. Now using port 8181 - but still having the same problem. Any other ideas ? Thanks.

Hi,

I think, this is one thing that Alfresco says it can do but can't or maybe in the version 4.0…

I've tried several things, but apparently, if you want to install alfresco and share on a different port, you have a lot of files to modify by hand… (cf book on Alfresco)

I'm afraid, you can not install it on a different port with the current version

Actually you can, but as Mark says, it's not such a great idea to choose a Tomcat-reserved port to do so!

Thanks,
Mike
