Hi,

I need to enable FTP on my Alfresco Server. I had followed the steps narrated in http://forums.alfresco.com/fr/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1810 for setting up FTP. In my Alfresco setup, the file-servers-custom.xml file resides in /usr/local/alfresco/tomcat/shared/classes/alfresco/extension. After making changes to the xml file, When I open ftp using the link ftp://9.0.0.114:2021/alfresco (9.0.0.114 is the IP of the Server), the ftp site doesn't open. It prompts to enter the username and password but doesn't open the folders.

My file-servers-custom.xml file is as given below:-

<config evaluator="string-compare" condition="FTP Server">
      <serverEnable enabled="true"/>
      <port>2021</port>
<bindto>9.0.0.114</bindto>
<rootDirectory>/Alfresco</rootDirectory>
      <charSet>UTF8</charSet>
</config>

Even when I try to connect to ftp from the command prompt. I get the following error.

root@administrator:/usr/bin# ftp localhost
ftp: connect: Connection refused
ftp>

Should I start the ftp service, I am not sure whether ftp or sftp is installed and its location.

Can anyone help me how to fix this issue.

Thanks

Binu Manickkam.

It prompts to enter the username and password but doesn't open the folders.

This sounds like the username and/or the password is incorrect.
You can look in the log files for the error.
Just try ftp://9.0.0.114:2021/  with user: admin pass: admin

My file-servers-custom.xml file is as given below:-

<config evaluator="string-compare" condition="FTP Server">
      <serverEnable enabled="true"/>
      <port>2021</port>
<bindto>9.0.0.114</bindto>
<rootDirectory>/Alfresco</rootDirectory>
      <charSet>UTF8</charSet>
</config>

You might try this without a rootDirectory just for testing purpose, you should see Alfresco and AVM folders.  Again user admin:admin for testing if that account has not changed.

Even when I try to connect to ftp from the command prompt. I get the following error.

root@administrator:/usr/bin# ftp localhost
ftp: connect: Connection refused
ftp>

You would get connection refused because you are connecting to the incorrect port:

try this  #ftp localhost:2021  on your alfresco machine.

Should I start the ftp service, I am not sure whether ftp or sftp is installed and its location.

Alfresco has ftp service not sftp.

I have to ask, why are you trying to use Alfresco 2.1?

I had installed Alfresco 2.1 quiet before and now finds difficult to upgrade the same.  I tried with all the forums and guidelines using the backup and recovery procedures mentioned but couldnt get through.  I did a fresh installation of Alfresco 3.2 in which the ftp works perfectly. But couldnt merge the 2.1 database to 3.2 . Hence, I am bound to use 2.1 Alfresco only.

Please help me.

Thanks

How do you synchronize the files on a FTP server and your computer? At present I am doing manually synching between the files on my ftp server and my local computer. But as the number of files is growing, I would like to do a synching between my ftp server files and my local computer. All these files are text files. So do you know more about this?

I have been using http://allwaysync.com/  to sync folders on my server to alfresco folders using ftp.  I did FTP instead of CIFS.
I have been  using http://fullsync.sourceforge.net/ to sync remote laptops to my SFTP server then behinds I have another program syncing files alfresco.  Fullsync could sync files from a server to alfresco with either CIFS or FTP.

Hope this helps.
Waiting patiently for a SFTP server to be part of alfresco.
