Hi All,

We're currently evaluating various CMS products and Alfresco is currently in the lead. We need a product that would manage our documents, a task easily done by Alfresco.

HOWEVER we also need a discussion forum for our staff. I've looked at the features of Alfreso and it doesnt seem to have that ability. Only a discussion around a specific document, and that won't work.

Could someone please advise me how we could Alfresco to address our document sharing/management needs as well as our discussion forum needs?

Thanks!

You can create a Forum Space through the Create->Advanced Space Wizard menu. The Forum Space can contain any number of ad-hoc Forum objects.

The Forum capabilities in Alfresco are not very advanced compared to say PHPBB or similar, but they are suitable for ad-hoc discussions around content etc.

Thanks,

Kevin

One observation I've made over the years is that some of the better CMS systems out there such as Alfresco do not have the advanced forum features.  Are there any plans for improvements of forum capabilities in Alfresco core?

When my organization was looking for a CMS for collaboration purposes, we passed a number of popular CMS due to their lack of in-house forum software.  In the end and to my disagreement…we went with a forum-only application.  While it looks integrated you know in the back of your mind that it really is not.
