Fix Preview in Alfresco 3.4a community on Ubuntu 10.10

For some reason after installing Alfresco 3.4a Community on Ubuntu 10.10, the document preview would not work.  After searching, I found a fix for that allowed the preview of PDF documents and image type files like JPGs, etc.,.

However, DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX files were not being thumbnailed and would not show up in the previewer. 

The solution was to make a change to the alfresco-global.properties for the "img.root" path
from: img.root=/opt/alfresco34a/common
to : img.root=/usr

After this change the previewer and thumbnails are working.

Thanks a lot for article! There is small correction.

Following is not required:
- img.exe=${img.root}/bin/convert
+ img.exe=/usr/local/bin/convert

This is because of:
ln -s /usr/bin/convert .convert.bin

I have the same problem but in Windows. Any solution?
