Export/Import

Hi to all,

I made some changes to "wcmqs" sample site.
(changes some photos, texts, layout, etc … just to try)

After that I export the site <site>.acp via Alfresco Explorer.

Then I uninstall all and re-install again.

Now I would import my site.

How can I do?

I have seen "Import" command in Alfresco Explorer and I made it, but nothing happens. I have a .acp file and nothing else.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Make sure you use "import" and not "upload", and this will explode the ACP.

Regards, Ben.

I'm sure, I'll use import command.

I have site.acp in Content Items and nothing else.

Perhaps it's worth confirming precisely what should have been done.
  1. In Share, create a new site (we'll assume a name of "wqs" here)

  2. Add the Web Quick Start (WQS) dashlet to the site dashboard

  3. Use the WQS dashlet to import the standard data.

  4. Using Share, make the changes that you want (new articles, images, sections, etc)

  5. Using Alfresco Explorer, navigate to "Company Home/Sites/wqs/documentLibrary"

  6. Click on the "View Details" icon below the "Alfresco Quick Start" folder

  7. From the list of actions on the right of the page, select "Export"

  8. In the form that appears, type "mysite" as the package name, and choose Company Home for the destination. Select both "Include children" and "Include this space". Deselect "Run in background".

  9. Click OK.

  10. When it's finished, navigate to Company Home. You should see an item called "mysite.acp" in that folder.

  11. You can now download this file (click on the "Download" icon under it) and save on your disk.
This has completed how to create a new ACP containing your site. Now how to import this new site. There are a couple of options here, but since you are talking about importing the ACP then I'll describe that approach here:
  1. In Share, create another Share site (we'll assume a name of "mysite" this time)

  2. In Alfresco Explorer, navigate to "Company Home/Sites/mysite/documentLibrary"

  3. From the "More Actions" drop-down menu (top right), select "Import"

  4. In the form that's displayed, click the "Browse…" button and find the ACP file that you exported earlier on your hard disk

  5. I normally deselect "Run in background"

  6. Click OK

  7. When this has completed, you should see a new folder in the document library named "Alfresco Quick Start", and below this you should find the content of your updated website

  8. Once you have confirmed that this is the case, you may delete the original "wqs" site from Share
Let me know if that helps.

At this point I think I wrong export. Smiley Sad

Maybe I exported the root site folder and not "Alfresco Quick Start" folder.

Your instructions were very helpful … thanks 1K!

Another question:
if I change some css or webscript under /tomcat/webapp/wcmqs

these changes are taken with the export?

No, not with the out of the box setup. Only the repository content is part of the ACP.  The CSS files etc sit within the wcmqs.war web application that is outside of Alfresco.

You could extend the Quick Start to include the css within the repository, and possibly allow the user to select which style to use.  There are a number included with the default setup, just edit webapps\wcmqs\css\index.css and comment in the required file to take a look.

ok, I followed the procedure and now I'm able to export/import.

But I've other problem:
when I imported, I noticed that the files that were already present (folder and page)  that I edited are back as original.

In reality, for example, the folder's names have changed, while the title and the body (and therefore what you see on the browser) are back as they were.

No problem with new files/folder.

Have you any idea? ..or I have still wrong something else?

I think there must be something wrong with the process you're using - export and import has been in Alfresco for a very long time and is well-tried and tested. Unfortunately I can't quite work out what might be going wrong - I'd need a little more detail.
