Enabling LDAP authentication

I'm trying out Alfresco and would like to test it's LDAP capabilities, however I see no instructions for how to do so.  I've installed Alfresco 1.4 and gotten it working, and I've also downloaded the pdf manuals (Alfresco_GettingStartedGuide_0.1.pdf, Alfresco_InstallationGuide_0.1.pdf, and Alfresco_SystemAdministration_0.1.pdf) but none of them even contain the word "ldap".

So… what am I supposed to do?

I'd be very interested in getting some documentation on how to setup LDAP authentication as well. Smiley Happy

And after LDAP is set up, how would this affect the user accounts on Alfresco, if at all? Would the accounts still need to be created?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks, that's helpful for configuring it but I still don't see how to turn it on in the first place.  I've tried renaming ldap-authentication-context.xml.sample to ldap-authentication-context.xml but then I get this lovely error on startup.

ERROR [alfresco.smb.protocol] CIFS server configuration error, Wrong authentication setup for alfresco authenticator
org.alfresco.error.AlfrescoRuntimeException: Wrong authentication setup for alfresco authenticator

I would assume that there's some place where I need to tell it to use ldap instead of the default authentication.  Any hints?

Hi

CIFS does not work with LDAP unless there is an AD controller in sync with your LDAP server. The docs explain why this is the case.

You need to look at http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/CIFS_Server_Authentication.
You could use the passthru authenticator. If not then, CIFS will not play with LDAP.

What is your LDAP server?

Andy

Hi,

I'm trying to setup the same.
But there are some difficulties.

We are using eDir as LDAP server.
And I want to import LDAP groups.

This works quite good but I don't understand how it is possible to import a group as a subgroup.

I have this in my LDAP

dc=company,dc=com
  |
  |-> OU=Belgium
  |      |->OU=IT-persons
                |->CN=Correspondents (group)
                |->CN=Operations (group)
  |-> OU=France
  |      |->OU=IT-persons
                |->CN=Correspondents (group)
                |->CN=Operations (group)
Now how could I import this structure in alfresco.

So that we have a hierarchical tree in alfresco as well.

If this is not possible what do you suggest .
It seems that group in groups is not possible in eDIr.

Thank you for an answer !
