HI,

I have searched for any existing issues related to edit online. I have not found any relating to my concern.
I am using version 3.4.6. When I open a document and want to edit it, it does save time to edit it online, but once it is saved it never asks for a comment. When a document is edited offline and you check it back in you are prompt for a comment. Can this feature be turned on to ask for a comment when a document is edited online? Would this also work for explorer also?

As always thanks for your support and speedy responses!

So, you mean to say that when you are going for the edit online it is not creating any working copy.
It is directly updating the original one?
Is this same for explorer as well?

No, It creates a working copy but you don't have to save it to your C; drive then re-up load the modified copy. When you perform this way it asks for the user to input text in the comment field. To save time; users would rather edit online, make the changes then save it. When this is done it saves it directly in Alfresco bypassing the uploading of the modified version. I want to know if I can prompt for a comment when saving from edit online. Hope this makes sense.

If you are doing the online edit then also it will ask you for the comment.
It is basically depends on the document is versionable or not.
Make sure the versioning is enable for both the document as you have to do this explicitly.
Once it is enable each time you update the document it should ask you for the new version number and comment.

Yes, it does update the version but it doesn't prompt me for a comment. I have the option when I edit offline.

Hello,

if by "Edit Online" you mean the SharePoint integration as I assume you do, then you are out of luck concerning comments. Saving in this scenario is a feature of Office and if Office does not ask you for a comment, Alfresco can't either (since the server receiving the save has no way to tell your Office or browser to open up a prompt). As far as I know, Office only supports commenting changes when you use the checkout / checkin feature within Office - a simple save (Ctrl + S) is without comment.

Regards
Axel

Yes I do. We are using the checkout/ checkin feature within office currently. Thanks for the support AFaust!
