Disable/Enable versioning for single document/folder

Hi,
I am evaluating Alfresco Community for our company and I am stuck on seemingly simple task:

How to disable versioning for single item (e.g. word document) in alfresco share?

What I found so far, is how to disable versioning for all content (doc) but that is not what I need.

In document detail, I tried clicking "Manage Aspects" and I removed "Versionable". But all what happens is that it deletes all versions except last, which is renamed to version 1.0. When I click "Manage Aspects" again, "Versionable" is no longer there, but when I "Upload New Version" of the document it starts versioning again.

I would like for users to be able to disable/enable versioning on "node" basis. E.g.: disable versioning for whole Site/Folder, but be able to enable it on specific subfolders/documents.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards,
Vladimir Sobotka

EDIT: I am using Alfresco Community 4.2.c and I am running it on Debian 7. Can't find anything related in logs to indicate bug or bad installation/configuration.

Removal of versionable aspect should be sufficient.
Is there any rule on the parent folder which add versionable aspect on document update?

Hello mitpatoliya,
thank you for your quick reply.

My document is located in document library of a site I just created. I checked rules on the:
1)site folder,
2)document library folder,
3)on folder "Sites" in top level folder structure of "Repository"
via both Alfresco Share and Explorer (just to be sure) and there are none defined. I am not aware that I changed any rules configuration after install.
I checked JIRA for known issues in 4.2.c but found none concerning versioning disable/enable. This seems like a major feature to me to go unnoticed as bug for such a long time.

Any other ideas?

I hope you have not done following change in alfresco-global.properties which you have posted in your first post.
version.store.enableAutoVersioning=true

Nope,
only thing I changed in alfresco-global is configuration of login chain for LDAP, mail, etc. Nothing to do with versioning or repository.

It's almost vanilla installation. I did'nt change any module's configuration or anything like that. Can you reproduce the behavior I am describing? I thought about that and maybe it is "not a bug but feature".

Alfresco Share correctly removes versions when versionable aspect is removed and it add's versionable aspekt back automaticly with "Upload new version" button. Even dialog for uploading new version says to choose between minor/major version. So I gues it just add's the versionable aspect in the process of uploading new document version.

I discussed this with my superior and inability to disable versioning should not be such a problem for us. Though I will have to install/implement module to limit maximum number of versions (already found something to build upon, so it hopefuly won't be a problem).

Right now I am merely curius if it's a bug or a feature. When I have time I may test older versions of alfresco, if they behave same or not and I will post results here.

Thank you for your time.

Its a feature. Share automatically versions content, its hard coded.
