I am trying to install the latest July 18th beta and having an issue below in the alfresco log file:

Error creating bean with name 'org.alfresco.deployment.impl.server.DeploymentTargetRegistrationBean' defined in file [/srv/tomcat6/webapps/alfresco/WEB-INF/classes/alfresco/deployment/filesystem-target.xml]:

Invocation of init method failed; nested exception is org.alfresco.deployment.impl.DeploymentException: 05260004 Could not write metadata path:./wcm/depmetadata/default/.md.

I looked into the filesystem.properties file and see the path info in there however not sure if this is a bug in the current beta or what.  Have this problem with two installs.  Assuming I'm the only one trying this beta since no one else is complaining about this.  I am on OpenSUSE by the way.  Right now Alfresco and Share come up, but can't login.  The prior June 2nd beta and Preview2 were fine.

This maybe my fault.

The issue is with the deployment.properties of the wcm_deployment_subsystem.  

To work around this issue
a)  Don't bootstrap wcm, or
b) create the folder "wcm", or
d) change the filesysem target in deployment.properties

Bingo! That was it.  So should I not be bootstrapping the wcm xml file anylonger or just for this nightly build?  One other item for ya.  I am going to be prototyping this version in a couple weeks as a lot of users like the though of being able to set a site as moderated or not.  Of course I would like to restrict who could make a site in the first place, but that's another topic.  That said, do you know when the next nightly build is coming out so I can have the latest and greatest?

Glad to help.

You only need to bootstrap WCM if you want it!   However there may need to be a few more tweaks required in the installers.

I'm not sure whats happening with nightly builds (the low level detail is a bit of a mystery to me).    There were good builds earlier in the week.

Sorry for brining back this topic, but I have exactly described problem.

I want to change filesystem target and found it in the file webapps/alfresco/WEB-INF/classes/alfresco/deployment/filesystem.properties:

; filesystem receiver configuration
deployment.filesystem.rootdir=./wcm
; default filesystem target configuration
deployment.filesystem.default.rootdir=./www

I do not want to change anything inside "webapps" folder, so I have tried to put corrected settings in alfresco-global.properties - no luck.
Then I've tried to put it in shared/classes/alfresco/extension/filesystem.properties - still doesn't work (same problem: "Could not write metadata path:./wcm/depmetadata/default/.md.").

Where exactly should I put deployment.filesystem.rootdir and deployment.filesystem.default.rootdir?

PS: tried on 2 versions - Alfresco Community Edition 3.3g (20557) and latest svn (22592).
