Custom Categories

Hi…

I'm looking for a way of using a custom Category (Name(code), Summary, Description) for classifying documents.
this is used to set 2 classification properties on a document.

Right now I think that I'd have to make 2 extentions to cm:category so I can manage to set 2 diferent "tables"
but I'm not sure if this is the best approach to this problem. I've read somewhere that I wouldn't be hable to create/edit these new categories. Also I'd have to create component generators to manage the properties on the documents since the standard generator for type d:category does not allow searches

I need some hints on how to implement this

a small example, so you can understand what I'm looking at:

a document of type "request" can have a classification
1 - Help request
2 - permission request
3 - vacation request
4 - meeting request
…

so we'd have a request type code…

in the real case this would be a list of more than 1000 codes that could be applied to a document.
I know that I could use a constraint, but the list constraint is much too simple and it doesn't allow to do searches on the list.

Now that I think of it… is it possible to create a constraint type???

Any ideias on how to deal with this problem will be appreciated

Thank you

Hi JayJay

what I needed was to replace the edit-category dialog by a custom dialog…

I've created custom-edit-category.jsp and changed the navigation-bean so it would point to this new dialog… but nothing changed

added a navigation-rule definition to a faces-config in a jar file… added this same bean to faces-config-custom and nothing… changed the original faces-config-navigation… and still nothing.

only way that I got the dialog to show was to replace the original edit-category file with the one I made…

now once again I came across this same problem… this time I need to add a new step between login.jsp and browse.jsp… but same thing as before… unfortunately now I don't have any way of getting my screen to show up

Interesting thing is that I changed every references to the edit-category I could find… and still alfresco would show me the same file, as if it could find a navigation-rule with the original information somewhere else that I cannot find

I'm using Alfresco 3.1 SP1 enterprise…

any help will be appreciated

For your 1st example :

- create your own EditCategoryDialogCustom
- edit web-client-config-custom.xml to define this custom dialog, its jsp files, etc …
- edit the web-client-config-custom.xml to configure the action-groups that should display your category, and override them so that they do not display the basic alfresco EditCategoryDialog
- edit faces-config-custom.xml to register your EditCategoryDialogCustom

that's all folks ! Smiley Happy

Hello,

I think this is the right thread to ask this question.
Can someone post a concrete example for above issues? I think it's the same as I'm trying to do.
I got custom categories and when i edit some properties that are d:category I want to have the correct (sub)rootcategory for that property. Something like defining a default category for this property in for example my custom model or web-client-config, that kinda idea.

Thnx.

Hi

you'll have to do some custom-generators, check UICategorySelector and start from there by extending it. I don't have the code here right now so I can't post any example, but all you have to do is change the method getRootCategory (something like that)
