Installation issues on Ubuntu 8.04

Hi All,

I have been reading up on Alfresco for about 1 year now and I like the software. We got a simple test environment for Alfresco running on Ubuntu 9.04 (using apt-get) but it was missing some parts (like SURF) so we decided to install Alfresco (complete) using the install file here (http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Download_Community_Edition) on Ubuntu 8.04. We have downloaded the install file a number of times and we cannot get the file to execute (we have made it executable). We have followed the installation instructions on the wiki, but we just never get passed the executable part. Can someone point us in the right direction, it would be much appreciated.

To be more specific about my issue:

I download the Linux full install file

chmod x+ it

sudo ./Alfresco-Community-3.2-Linux-x86-Install

enter my root password

No response from terminal at all, it just returns a new line

Thanks for your reply newmember!

Other than being written in a language other than english (I am not multilingual) there is one step missing - you need to install build-essential to compile swftools. The command is:

sudo apt-get install build-essential.
