Creating Office Content from within Alfresco

Hi . I am new to Alfresco. I am familiar with Documentum and Nuxeo ECM applications. In both cases one is able to create MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) content from within the Document Management Application. With Alfresco, one only seems to be able to create content from within, if it is of one of the following formats; HTML, Text and XML.
Is this the case or is there some sort of add-in one can use. The only office add-in we have come across is one that allows a user to directly access the Alfresco Repository from within the office application.   Smiley Sad

Direct access of the Alfresco Repository from within the office application is achieved using the Sharepoint protocol.
Google docs integration with Alfresco lets you achieve that, but using google docs. Alfresco Web Editor (awe) is heading in that direction, so might have that cool feature soon, fingers crossed.
