Confused about Share

I'm a little bit confused here.  I know I asked this question in another form last week, but I'm still at a loss.

Why is Share being recommended for use when it doesn't have the feature set of the JSF client, and worse, modifying Share sites with the JSF client is unsupported and warned against.

How can I make this work for my users when some documents require management using standard-Alfresco features like content rules?  Everyone has to be trained in using both Share and Explorer?  I really don't think they're going to get it.  Is there any way to at least view documents elsewhere in the repository from within Share so that only editors have to learn both interfaces?

Maybe I'm missing something obvious here…

Share is meant as an easy-to-use Web Client aimed at users who are more familiar with today's "Web 2.0" concepts.

A decision was taken to create a new client, rather than try to crowbar in new features to the existing one, where certain important goals such as predictable bookmarking, shallow development learning-curve, separation from the Repository, etc. etc. could be met in a reasonable timescale.

Naturally it's going to take time to get Share feature-complete when compared to the JSF client, but this is to be expected in a "V1.0" product.

In your case, you need a particular function that's only available today in the JSF client, so it would make sense to use that and then reassess the situation in the future when we've released more features on Share.

I have just being experimenting with Alfresco and I agree, something does not fit with Share and Alfresco. For example, I can upload documents/folders through CIFS but they somehow do not appear in Alfresco/share when I go to Documents for that site. Am I missing something? I do like the concept of share. Is much more organized IMO.

Are you sure you're uploading to Company Home / Sites / (SiteName) / documentLibrary?

I did a mapping to
\\alfrescoserverA\alfresco\users\NameofSite

Is that right?

will try like you just said. If it works then I think Share is the way to go.

Thanks

I think you know the answer to that

Share's sites are all hosted under Company Home / Sites so that's where you have to upload content for Share to see it. More specifically, in the documentLibrary subspace of a site itself.

Thanks,
Mike
