I have been spending nearly 2 days try to configure Alfresco to get the CFIS to work.  I have done a lot of reading but did not find anything.  Does anybody have any luck with this?  If you do can you point me to a right direction.

The version i'm trying right now is version Alfresco 3b running on Window XP using trial dB.

Thanks
Larry

It should have worked out of the box,
are you sure you tried to access it the right way, or that you don't have anything blocking it?

I try to map the window drive to \\testserver\Alfresco but it returned failling message.  May be that is not proper way to do it.

Thanks

Hi larry

by default if your computer name is testserver, Alfresco will map to testserver_a or testservera
you can also check what is Alfresco's CIFS corrent name in file-servers.xml in your config folder (if you're using tomcat this is \tomcat\webapps\alfresco\WEB-INF\classes\alfresco)
or custom-file-servers.xml in your extensions folder (if you're using tomcat this is \tomcat\shared\classes\alfresco\extensions)

check for a line like:
<host name="${cifs.localname}A" domain="${cifs.domain}"/>

I also faced a problem where you had to map the connection using a differente username but that was using Vista

check if any of these tips help, and post some feedback

I'm also having trouble with CIFS on Labs 3b (windows xp, tomcat, mysql). I tested it out of the box and no luck. I've modified the file-servers.xml about 30 times and no luck (I hard-coded the host name, changed the authentication type, etc.). When I use the out-of-the box configuration and hover over the "Open this Space in Windows Explorer" button, my web-browser status bar shows "file:\\\" . . . it's not mapped to anything. When I try to map a network drive it says "The network path jhall_della {or jhall_dell_a} cannot be found."

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

hi john

just tested "View in CIFS" (I don't seem to find "open"), and this doesn't work until you've succesfully authenticated through network drive or by running
"\\server_a\alfresco"

check if you can ping the server (if remote server)
check if you can ping to the alfresco servername

and check if you can find that particular service when typing:
nbtstat -A [server-IP]
(there should show up the alfresco nameserver)

thanks for the help.

I was able to get this working by moving the DLLs from the Alfresco/bin directory into my Windows/system32 folder.

Then I map the drive and the integration works.

Great!

Hi Ivo and all,

We are testing Alfresco 3.0b on a 64-bit Windows Server 2008 machine.  Everything seems to work except the CFIS network map drive.  I placed a copy of the drivers in the bin directory to both windows wow 64, and windows 32 system folders.  However, when running the command nbtstat -a 192.168.x.x all the other servers show up, but not the Alfresco name server.  Any luck here from anyone else?

Thanks for all your replies.  After couple tries with community version the CFIS did not work.  But after I tried Enterprise version 3.0 it works.  I don't know what the different in the configuration file between Enterprise and community.  I would like to get the community version to work so could you post the file-servers-custom or any related configuration file.

Thanks
Larry

Dear all,

I also have problem in connecting the CFIS from Windows 2003 Server to Windows 7.

< I ran into problem on Windows 7 client workstation to Windows 2003 Alfresco Server, the other Windows XP client works fine.
<And I am using Alfresco version 3.4 >
I ran my Windows 2003 Server VM, the native CFIS connection within VM is OK, but the connection from Windows 7 is the credentials
authentication, relogon.

I tried the method on disabling the network security
On the Win7 client in question… Control Panel, Admin Tools, Local Security Policy.
Navigate to Security Settings, Local Policies, Security Options –> Change "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication Level" to "Send LM and NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated".
Reboot just in case (not sure if it is needed), and didn't work at all, I also disable the File & Print services.

Any easy method on connecting the 2, need to set the registry value, but seems not work for somebody on the wiki,
please help
