Clarification on Authentication configuration

I want to confirm my understanding of http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Alfresco_Authentication_Subsystems before proceeding

Alfresco Community 3.4d edition installed and running on Windows 2008 Server R2 Standard

I want to
1. use AlfrescoNTLM for supporting external users authentication and access
2. Integrate with our Active Directory to authenticate internal (local and remote) users access and to avoid user account replication

First, in the wiki link above, example 1 looks like what I want to do, but will this work for remote internal users?
Second, will implementing authentication this way provide an Alfresco site with a list of users that can be invited to use the site? (hopefully I asked that correctly)

Thanks Very Much

I'm not a windows guy, so I'm not sure about the answer to your first question.

Regarding your second question, the users need to be sync'd into Alfresco in order to provide that list. If you turn on the sync job, the sync will happen on a schedule. If you don't turn on the sync job, user objects will be created for each users as they log in. So, without a sync, your user pick list will only include users who have logged in to Alfresco.

More info on sync: http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/The_Synchronization_Subsystem
