CIFS on Windows XP

Just installed alfresco on Windows XP and tried to connect via CIFS (the server is visible).
Host configuration in file-servers.xml is: <host name="ALFRESCO_H" domain="WORKGROUP"/> (same domain as server).

Problem:
- Authentication is required (login dialog pops up, user 'Guest' is preselected), login fails

Question:
- Do I have to authenticate and if yes, what are the user's name and password?

Yes, you have to authenticate and the user's name and password are same that you use to log in Alfresco.

Thanks for the answer, but I still can't login. I used the alfresco default login 'admin' 'admin'.

You could try enabling debug output for the CIFS authentication by uncommenting, or adding, the following line in the WEB-INF\classes\log4j.properties file :-

log4j.logger.org.alfresco.smb.protocol.auth=debug

When you get the login prompt and enter the user/password (e.g. admin/admin), does the login prompt just pop up again?

If it does, try submitting the user/password several times.  We have seen some instances where it seems to take several attempts to authenticate - but this is only where the CIFS network folder is being requested on the same PC as the ALfresco server.  There appears to be some MS "special" behaviour going on.

I am experiencing the same issue but I am trying to access the Alfresco server via CIFS from a remote laptop on the same subnet running Windows XP. Any suggestions what I can do to remedy this? I am running the 1.4 Community Network version.
