Check-out error

Hi,

We've got Alfresco 1.3 installed on a Win XP server box with LDAP enabled.

We've uploaded files using FTP.

An issue has begun to occur where, after checking-out a file and clicking the file to edit or download it an error occurs, and the file is not checked-out.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Check-out a file.
2. Check-out to remote space (ie, not the same space as the original).
3. Click the filename to edit or download.

The following error message is displayed:

HTTP Status 500 -

type Exception report

message

description The server encountered an internal error () that prevented it from fulfilling this request.

exception

org.alfresco.error.AlfrescoRuntimeException: Error during download content servlet processing: Node does not exist: workspace://SpacesStore/64e16a62-43a9-11db-b647-07872795faf8

note The full stack trace of the root cause is available in the Apache Tomcat/5.5.12 logs.

Apache Tomcat/5.5.12

This happens for all users, regardless of permission.

Initially we were experiencing the issue ONLY when checking-out to the local space (ie. The "Working Copy" was inserted into the same space as the original file).

We cured this problem by checking-out to another space (usually "Guest Home").

A check of the Tomcat logs indicates the 'checking-out' folder does not exist. This is complete bunk as the original space (in which the original is placed) certainly exists, and so does "Guest Home" (it is the same space as was installed by default).

Any help with this matter would be greatfully appreciated.

I've just checked the folder into which the file is supposed to be checked-out and the "Working Version" copy has not been copied to the destination space.

This explains the HTTP error and the message.

So, to summarise, the check-out is not functioning. No copy is made of the file.

I will try to restart the server to solve the problem, but would prefer to have a genuine fix.

I've worked out the issue.

It has nothing to do with Tomcat or MySQL.

It's got to do with space rules.

I have a check-in space rule, which is configured thus:

1. in the select condition field, choose ALL ITEMS.
2. Click ADD TO LIST and click NEXT.
3. From the SELECT ACTION field, choose CHECK-IN CONTENT.
4. Click SET VALUES AND ADD.
5. In the SET ACTION VALUES window, click OK.
6. Click NEXT.
7. In the ENTER DETAILS window,
- from the TYPE field, select INBOUND.
- in the TITLE field enter "Check-in rule".
- in the DESCRIPTION field, enter a description for the rule
- check APPLY RULE TO SUB-SPACES
8. Click NEXT.
9. Click FINISH.

Now try to check something OUT.

If you click on the filename to edit or download you'll get the HTTP error mentioned in the original post.

If you go to the space the file is supposed to be checked-out in, you will see there is no copy created.
