Apache problem with error 404

unknown-user

Ok basically, I am not able to run alfresco.  I am getting error 404 (starting the browser) or 500 for the share.

So much stuff has changed since the time I opened this thread (Migrated my server to Slack 13, newer Apache, MySQL, etc etc etc….) so instead of deleting this thread and creating a new one, I simply deleted the non-relevant posts (that contained out of date info) so please see the posts below for most up to date info.

many thanks!

dilshan,

I am going to look at that tonight and get back to try to solve that problem.  I couldnt try anything in the last few weeks, but I will try what mrogers said for sure!

jlodholm, that did not work… Smiley Sad

The 404 error is (almost) irrelevant. You need to find the alfresco.log file and post that to help people diagnose the underlying cause.

Thanks,
Mike

It's still the same problem that I mentioned in March: the Alfresco application can't connect to the MySQL database. Make sure MySQL is actually running. Make sure it's listening on port 3306. Make sure it's listening on localhost (you may need to add a line to /etc/hosts). Make sure there's no local firewall blocking connections to port 3306. Try "telnet localhost 3306" to see if you can connect.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

MySQL is running (i have 2 other applications using it), it is listening on 3306 (MySQL server port: 3306), I cant find any option to have MySQL listen on "localhost", BTW my machine name is lhost2 and domain name is ldomain276…..

the comntent of /etc/hosts is:

# hosts         This file describes a number of hostname-to-address
#               mappings for the TCP/IP subsystem.  It is mostly
#               used at boot time, when no name servers are running.
#               On small systems, this file can be used instead of a
#               "named" name server.  Just add the names, addresses
#               and any aliases to this file…
#
# By the way, Arnt Gulbrandsen <agulbra@nvg.unit.no> says that 127.0.0.1
# should NEVER be named with the name of the machine.  It causes problems
# for some (stupid) programs, irc and reputedly talk. :^)
#

# For loopbacking.
127.0.0.1               localhost
127.0.0.1               lhost2.ldomain276 lhost2

# End of hosts.

and I tried to change the second loopback address to my machine's IP (192.168.0.101) but with no success… there is absolutely no firewall running on any machines on my network, except the main DHCP server but it is not located between my alfresco server and my laptop… BTW I can access the same webpage (the error 404) from my laptop… SO I guess it means that I can connect to the alfresco machine but just get the same error as if I was trying directly on the alfresco macchine locally.

As for telnet here's the story:

trying FROM the alfresco machine (lhost2):

telnet lhost2 3306
will give
Trying 192.168.0.101…
Connected to lhost2.
Escape character is '^]'.
8
5.0.84-log(#96D3qbv,LUIN+,8uh')6Connection closed by foreign host.

telnet localhost 3306
will give
Trying 127.0.0.1…
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.
8
5.0.84-log)I|X!<H6u,j6lA=LJjZccGConnection closed by foreign host.

As you can see, when I specify the real machine name (lhost2) telnet replies with the associated machine IP (192.168.0.101) but if I specify localhost, telnet replies with the loopback IP (127.0.0.1)…. Is that normal?

Anyways, I'm totally clueless LOL…

i don't know about this much. but i tried to install it on another computer. my friend's one. it gave the same result with dis 404. then he agreed to format the C drive and then we re installed alfresco. then it worked. but my machine doesn't still work. actually formating the machine is not a good answer. but we had to do it. what to do…!!!

Hi dilshan,

I understand formatting did it, but trust me, I really dont want to do that with my slackware machine…  It is currently loaded with a different server and everything works.  Alfresco is the 2nd one and it doesnt.  Really strange.  I wonder if there is a conflict with the other servers?

I have apache & mysql providing services to Zoneminder, and ZM works perfectly.  Bump!!?
