Hello everyone,
I wanted to let everyone know the latest news on Alfresco Web Studio.
I've recently added a Wiki page on it here: http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Web_Studio
Alfresco Web Studio is the visual design piece of what was formerly known as ADW (Dynamic Website). It's the graphical front-end with all of the drag-and-drop page assembly things in it. It now runs entirely on the Surf platform. In fact, most of Surf was derived from ADW and then fortified by Alfresco engineering so that it nicely incorporates the Alfresco Web Script runtimes and Freemarker tranformation engines.
The good news is that we're hard at work on the UI now and will have it available to the community as quickly as we can. However, the visual UI will not be part of 3.0. We do, however, expect that it will follow on soon after that.
I think we'll be able to show it off a bit at the upcoming community conferences as well. Lots of good stuff in the works!
Michael

Hi Michael,
Labs 3c/Webstudio works fine and looks very good. Good job!
With the Display Items Components however I have encountered a problem. When I follow the Custom Site tutorial
and save the changed display item settings of "96 pixels" and "Four by four view", the save doesn't seem to work.
After a refresh the original "16 pixels" and "List View" remain.
I dragged the "Data dictionary" to the "body" region instead of the "nav" region, but that should probably not matter.
Regards,
Alex

Hi,
I manage to go to the website create wizard, but when I click "create" after choosing the web site template, nothing happens, and I get this log in Tomcat console :
[Fatal Error] :1:58: A DOCTYPE is not allowed in content.
Any idea ?

I'm in a similar position, 3c downloaded, installed, I can login but whenever I try to create a website I get a Javascript alert box saying 'create failed'.
It's a CentOS (Red Hat) machine running Tomcat 5.5 and jdk 1.6.

Hello,
Which platform are you installing on? If you're installing on a Linux platform, remember to add in the WCM pack since it contains studio.war.
That said, I would speculate that these are due to an inability of the server to contact http://network.alfresco.com. The Site Creation wizard actually calls over to fetch some JSON about sample sites that it can auto-install. The DOCTYPE issue is particularly indicative since it likely means that HTML came back over the wire when it expected JSON. This may be due to a proxy server not permitting throughput.
Is there any more information you could provide around validation of the network environment?
Otherwise, you may still be able to create a blank site and work up from there. It would be more interesting if the Site Creation Wizard could stream back one of the sites though.
Let me know if the network issue is there or if it persists. Would could look at options to bundle sample sites with Web Studio as well so as to avoid the network call. The nice thing about the network call is that opens up the door for us to have a library of components, sites and all kinds of things for sharing in the near future.

Michael,
On this wiki page, what does "In-Context Editing through JSF Client" mean ?
Steve
