After implementing our own Advanced Search functionality within Alfresco Share, i thought i'd share some of the requirements our business users raised. Hopefully some of these may be considered in the Alfresco Share Advanced Search feature earmarked for Q4 2010 release. A document containing a some of our screenshots is available here - http://www.box.net/shared/9sfyx0dpxd.

The following points were noted -
    - The ability to search across a range of dates for all date type fields in the content model.
    - The ability to search against a particluar type and the ability to to include or exclude sub-types.
    - Custom properties only to be displayed for a selected type.
    - The abilty to search against a particluar aspect.
    - Custom properties only to be displayed for a selected aspect.
    - The ability to search for properties that have not been completed i.e null.
    - Implementation of autocomplete controls to assist in the tagging and searching of all documents.
    - Search results to display all custom metadata for a document. (A similar requirement for the document library detailed view).

Nice writeup,
I think all of the requirements are supported in terms of lucene capability, and you can create those searches manually in the little search box today.
But this of course needs a search form.

I would like to put some emphasis on the search results list as well. The current search results list is just to plain simple. It needs
-Configurable columns
-Sortable columns
-Optional output format (like cvs, pdf etc)
-Optionally action menus - Take direct action on an item instead of having to go the the details page
-Filter kind of items in results

Come to think of two more important things
- Default to AND in simple search, like google. Now it is OR. (and this was a bit off topic since it is about simple search)
- Handle tokenization/snowball analyzer for different locales. It is right now just to unpredictable what tokenization that has been used to index a document, and thus have it included in search. I.e a user may add a document via CIFS on a Swedish Windows (Alfresco index this using Swedish locale), but prefer English in Share web gui (search terms tokenization in English) => very unpredictable search results. Can your search locale be an option in advanced search?
