Does Alfresco make use of Spring Security? If so, is it based on Spring Security 2.x or 3.x?

Yes, alfresco uses Acegi.   It also has its own authentication adapter framework that allows you to plug into external authentication systems.

Isn't Acegi now called/been rolled into "Spring Security?" 

I am on a project that will eventually be hooked into alfresco and I hope it will be alot easier to hook into if the security systems are the same.
