Alfresco Explorer 3.4d doc upload problem with Firefox

Over the weekend I upgraded an Alfresco community installation from version 3.2r (or 3.2r2, I'm not sure which exact version) to 3.4d on a Linux server running JBoss 4.2.3GA. Everything went smoothly.

Testing of the new installation was done on an OpenSuse 11.1 desktop with Google Chrome 9.0.597.98 I did not notice the problem I have now with other browsers. I can't upload documents using Alfresco Explorer with Firefox (3.6.13 and 3.6.16), IE (6.0 sp 1) Opera (11.0) nor Konqueror (4.12.1). I tried Firefox on Linux and Windwos. After you choose the file to upload, nothing else happens. After a while (I wait a long while just in case) if you hit the cancel button you see that nothing went in. The log files alfresco.log and stdout.log don't have anything showing a problem. So for me, only Google Chrome works now.

I searched around but was only able to find the opposite problem: http://issues.alfresco.com/jira/browse/ALF-3175

In Opera I caught this error message:

Error: http://<mywebserver>/alfresco/scripts/ajax/mootools.v1.11.js: Parse error at <regexp> line 0

I suppose that the problem is with mootools or the way verison 3.4d uses mootools.

Did anybody run into this problem? Any tips on debugging it and solving?

To do some more testing I downloaded and installed Alfresco with everything bundled for Windows and tested uploading documents with Firefox. Everything went well. But if I try this with the same browser from the same workstation but connected to the server I upgraded, it does not work.

So I think that it has something to do more with the server than the broswer.

Any clues?

Thanks.

I haven't been able to solve this problem yet so I wonder if anybody ran into this situation before to point me to the cause. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Have you got adblock installed by any chance? Or some other Firefox addon that messes with the HTML?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

Thanks for the idea. As far as I know nothing messes with this Firefox's html. Since the problem happens with every other browser I tried on Linux and Windows and only works with Chrome on my 3.4d Alfresco I think it's more related to the server. All those browsers worked fine with version 3.2. The same browser works when connected to the All-in-One Alfresco installation and fails against mine. I also cleared "work" before restarting JBoss.

So far I would say that it looks like my Alfresco is sending some invalid code to the browser that only Chrome swallows. The question is what it's sending and why it would be different from a standard installation since I didn't change the war file.

We have done some experimenting. We found the only in folders that have rules that email notices the upload hangs. Once we remove the rules the upload work fine. We are delving into this further. I hope this might assist a bit.

Jim,

Thanks for the idea. I'm now using Alfresco 3.4e which I installed "early" just to see if it would help to solve my problem.  Another reason I updated early without waiting for any problem reports is that I noticed that in Share with Chrome I have some minor problems, not serious at all. What happens is that if I want to move a document from a space to another I click on the check box to its left to select it but the option on top to the right that says "Selected Items" to let me move, copy, etc. the selection never enables. It works in Firefox though. So I really didn't have any browser that works 100%. The update (from 3.4d) went smoothly with no problems at all.

But the main problem was getting document upload to work with the other browsers. In my case the update to 3.4e solved the problem in spaces with rules and without rules. So I'm very satisfied with 3.4e!

Any chance you could share with me the details of your "upgrade to 3.4.e"? I have a couple of instances of 3.4.d (that are patched to fix problems - detailed in my post "3.4.e - version3419")… I loaded 3.4.e as you did … you're right … it works OK … but installed with POSTGRESQL … I need MYSQL … which are you using? … and if possible, how to get MYSQL working with 3.4.e … I'm OK … but would like to stay current!

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Ken
