Everyone:

We are pleased to announce the availability of Alfresco Community 2.9 Labs.

This Community Labs release is the first of a set of releases that will showcase upcoming Alfresco 3.0 product enhancements.  This Labs release also includes critical bugs fixes rolled up from our 2.1 Enterprise release offering, including important performance improvements and lock permissions fixes on our 2.1 Community WCM package.

Our Community 2.9 Labs release provides access to the following new capabilities for test and evaluation:

*  Facebook integration AMP
*  ECM Form integration
*  ECM Multi-Tenancy
*  IM / Presence integration
*  Email-addressable spaces, documents, and forum topics

A second Community 2.9 Labs release will follow in a couple of weeks.  This updated release will include a number of team collaboration enhancements along with iGoogle integration components.  Stay tuned!

Happy testing.

Nice one! Will 2.9 include dynamic models (i.e. no restarting app to take affect) and/or forms for DM?

Mark

Does "Labs" mean that this release is not recomended for using in production systems?
If so, in what time do you plan to release the stable build?

Hi,
great news! I've a few question and comments regarding the included features:
    - Where can I find some infos about the IM Presence integration?
    - mail-adressable spaces, feature comment:

      - mail with attachment(s):
            - add attachments as documents to space. If there is more than one built up a relation between them.
            - Don't generate part.html-files. If there is some additional body-text in the mail, treat this as a discussion-comment
       - mail with subject "get":

      - return mail to sender including a zip-File which contains the content of the space (Size limits?)
            - business case: Space "Product XY/Presentations", return all presenstation to Product XY. Is somehow an offline access.
    - mail-adressable documents, feature comment:

      - mail with subject "get":
            - return document to sender
         - mail with subject "checkout":
            - checkout doc and return working copy to sender
         - mail with subject "checkin":
            - checkin working copy of the doc
Cheers, Jan

Hello,

could anyone please advise me on where to find it? Is it only available in SVN head or is also available somewhere as a build.

Thanks

To answer a few of these questions:
Does "Labs" mean that this release is not recomended for using in production systems?
If so, in what time do you plan to release the stable build?
1 - Yes, as stated in the announcement, this is for test and evaluation only at this stage.
2 - Keep an eye on the wiki for details

Where can I find some infos about the IM Presence integration?
IM Presence is a demo only in this release - it's actually only a small part of a broader collaborative offering.
- Login to the web client as admin
- The Manage System Users console now has two additional fields for each user: Presence Provider and Username. (Skype and Yahoo only supported)
- To add the demo view to a space, browse to…
http://<server>:8080/alfresco/service/ui/presence/config
…and enter the full nodeRef of the target space.
- IM Presence will be shown only for those users and groups explicitly invited to the space

could anyone please advise me on where to find it?
Downloads are found in the downloads section of our SourceForge project: http://sourceforge.net/projects/alfresco/

Version 2.9 concentrates on showcasing our collaborative features. If there are specific areas of functionality you feel are missing, please raise an appropriate issue in JIRA

Mike

I just tested the presence feature using Mike's guide. To get it working I also had to enable http status in Skype client Options (that is, outside of Alfresco). If it was not enabled, http:/mystatus.skype.com/skypeusername.txt returns 'Unknown', presence feature did not handle this (the little arrow icon keeps looping). Think it may just be a case problem (unknown/Unknown)

More important though, allow users configure their own Presence provider, no admin would enjoy tracking down IM user names and add manually.
But that is probably coming along with a lot more cool collaboration features.

Cheers,
Peter Löfgren

Hi

Thanks for the feedback. I'd forgotten to mention the privacy settings in Skype (and Yahoo for that matter). Strange you're seeing problems with the ajax spinner on "unknown", but that code's been revised since the release, so please bear with it for now. There are some issues with IE not quite handling the CSS contextual selectors properly, so this early cut might be browser-sensitive.

We'll be adding the properties to the user-accessible properties page too.

Thanks,
Mike
