Adding global links between Spaces

I have two spaces: SpaceA and SpaceB.  SpaceB is the department-specific space relating to SpaceA.  I want to add a link in SpaceB to redirect the user to SpaceA (upon click - NOT automatic!).  How can I do this?  I've tried adding a shortcut as content containing the external link, but it did not work.  I know how to add a shortcut to my personal browser, but not a global shortcut to the space itself.

We are running version 1.2.1.

In 1.3 you can add links to spaces and content which does exactly as you describe.
