4.0a Linux : Preview OpenOffice not working

Hello,
I get problem to show the preview from docx with Alfresco 4.0a /Rhel 5.6 64 bits / Mysql 5.0.77. The preview with PDF is working.
When I upload a document.docx the preview does not work…
alfresco-global.properties
soffice is started (top)
Error log. After click to show the document.docx
After that the process soffice is not working on the system… (no visible with "top")
Does someone have the same problem ?

I do not get errors (in alfresco.log) when uploading .doc files (in Linux environment) but I do not get a preview either. The document must be being processed because I can search for terms in the uploaded document and oo is used to parse the document to extract the text for the solr engine. I'm not sure how (or even if) previews are generated for MS office documents. I presume for PDFs, ghostscript is used. Perhaps it's oo->pdf->gs.

The startup script (alfresco.sh) looks for the openoffice script as…
but this does not exist… it is actually called openoffice_ctl.sh
so this needs to change to …
however (at least in my case) when I executed ….

I got a compiled library for this and placed it in the openoffice/program directory and then it complained about missing libX11.so.6 and then libxcb.so.1. I likewise obtained these libraries and bingo it works and I now get previews of .doc and .xls
I am running alfreco on an external server vi the shell without X, so perhaps this missing library problem is not encountered if you have an instillation with X

The bug of the preview appears only with 1 file (the one that I have used to test…). This bug also appears with Alfresco 3.4d -> https://issues.alfresco.com/jira/browse/ALF-10993

Did you find this in catalina.out ?I extracted the libraries from the Linux distribution RPMs.
Apparently, even though it's operating 'headless' it needs some X libraries to work.
Was the issue with the one file or the one file type (docx). Do you have success with other 'docx' (office 2007) files ?

Yes. To test Alfresco 4.0a I used a file that I was actually editing for customers… The file seems to be an exception… I have removed all sensitive information inside and post on JIRA… you can try it : https://issues.alfresco.com/jira/secure/attachment/25764/CrashOpenOffice.docx

We have the same problem with .docx, .xlxs & .pptx
New documents are created in Office 2010 (Windows 7) and Office 2011 (Mac)
Running 4.0a with the Linux community installer using the included OO, Postgres & Tomcat
Linux is CentOS 6
Will happily troubleshoot if someone will point where to look.

I think it doesn't work properly on 4.0b either.
michaelk, the error I get is about libXext.so.6 missing. Any idea where can I get them for Ubuntu 64bit?

I've recently installed the Linux Alfresco version (4.0.d) on a new CentOS server using the wizard.
.DOC/.PDF files preview and open fine but .DOCX files fail to preview.
I get similiar error messages that have been posted to this forum posting.
