How to get check in comment in Document from automation service

When I do a CheckIn on a Document, I can add a comment. How can I retrieve that information from the automation REST service, is it in the Document properties because I don't see it.

The checkin comment is not a property of the document, but a property of the checkin action. It ends up in the audit log (and is visible in the History tab), nowhere else.

Would there be a way to query for it via NXQL?

No, NXQL is designed to query the document states, not the audit.
