Workflow on Share

When will I be able to develop custom workflows in Share using Forms?

Will existing Explorer based workflows be able to run under Share, recognizing that some rework would be necessary to incorporate Forms?

For example, is it expected that the Javascript from processdefinition.xml files can be reused and reworked to point at Share document library content/spaces?

In the meantime, can Explorer-based workflows access/move/modify Share folders and content directly if modified to point at the Share library?  The previous mention of the use of addNode prompted this question.

Thanks

An important concept to grasp with Share is that it uses exactly the same mechanisms as the Explorer client - i.e. it's exactly the same Repository. Share doesn't yet have all the functionality of Explorer, as (a) it needs to be exposed via REST APIs and (b) it's a new user interface to design for.

In terms of your questions:
- Improved workflow support will be coming - probably not in v3.3, but in v3.4 (if there is one, or v4.0). This is due to the Workflow API needing to be refactored to use the Forms Service.
- Share doesn't currently support custom workflow directly. The My Tasks dashlet will attempt to render tasks for the current user with transition buttons, but may not work in all cases. The Document Library only directly supports the two out-of-the-box, single-user workflows "Adhoc" and "Review and Approve".
- Explorer-based workflows are likely to work without issue, but "your mileage may vary" until Share supports them natively.

Mike

We're currently analyzing available Content/Records Management solutions for our company, but we still have some doubts related to the Alfresco's current architecture.

What we actually need is to comply to a few records processes due our ISO 9001 implementation (workflow+RM), so we don't specifically need a system which is compliant to the DoD 5015.2 (which I suspect might have many functionalities that are not really needed in this moment).

After installing Alfresco Community 3.2r2 and the respective RM module, it seems to me the RM module is in a "transition" phase to the Share interface. If it is explicitly said in version 3.2 that we shouldn't be using RM functions in the Alfresco explorer interface, why is it that after the RM's module installation, many RM's actions shows up in the Alfresco Explorer? For example I see actions such as "File" or "undeclare Record" under the Action's Rules menu in Alfresco Explorer.

Is it possible that I have an older module installed which shouldn't be there? If so, perhaps this "older RM module" (used as described here: http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Records_Management_User_Guide) could be attending better to the company's needs since it currently has better integration with workflows?

Any comments is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Your question would have been better off posted in the Records Management forum. However, yes we're aware the actions appear in the Explorer client - we'll probably hide them in v3.3

In the meantime, we still only support the new DoD 5015.2 module form the Share client. You may be able to use some functions from Explorer, but this hasn't been tested internally.

Thanks,
Mike
