when does preview get generated?

I have no problems with Alfresco Share 3.4a creating previews of the documents.  Probably is after the initial version it never generates again.  Please note that my organization doesn't tend to care about major/minor versions so everything is usually just dot revisioned.  Does Share not update the preview on minor revisions?  My group relies on this a lot so tends to be looking at incorrect versions thru that preview window.

Thanks.

Hi,

If a document has a preview then any update to that documents content will cause the web preview rendition to regenerated, major or minor.

This regeneration does occur as a background process, so you may not see the updated preview immediately.  Especially if the document is very large or of a type whose conversion is slow.

What type of document are you waiting for a web preview of?

Cheers,
Roy

Word or Excel documents.  Sometimes a PDF.  You may be right on that.  I'll do more testing.  Is there a difference in rendition times between a new file and an update?  Looks like the new file preview gets generated right away.

Thanks.

Hi,

Yes, a newly uploaded file with have it's preview generated when the web preview screen is first opened for that file.  The UI will wait until it's generated before showing it.

Updates to that contents web preview rendition happen in the background and as soon as the new content is uploaded to the server.

Cheers,
Roy

We are having the same problem. The preview never gets genereated after the original file is updated ( version 1.1,1.2. and so on) . Always the original file is seen in the preview. I even tried with browser refresh.

Any alfresco developers here , who knows how to tackle this issue?

Cheers

Same issue on 3.4.c for Windows.

It doesn't matter how long I wait, the document preview will always stay on the original version of the document. It also doesn't matter how I update it. I've tried over CIFS, WebDAV, Edit Offline/Upload New Version and the document preview continues to display the original document.

Got this same problem on an old Alfresco Instance 3.3.2 , planning to update to 3.3.5 and later to the 3.4 branch. But for now, I wonder why this starter! I was working right a few weeks ago.
