What is the difference between roles in setting folder

Hi,

I am using Alfresco Share to assigning permission to different folders.
First, I am choosing the folder to assign permission by clicking the repository.
When I click "Manage Permission" option in the folder, I got 9 permission can be set and I am confused with it.
(editor, consumer, collaborator, contributor, coordinator, site manager, site collaborator, site contributor, site consumer)

1. what is the difference between "site manager" and "coordinator" ?
As I know, site manager and coordinator both grant all rights and permissions.

2. what is the difference between "site xxxx" vs the relatively "xxxx"
As I tried, let say "site consumer" and "consumer", both grant "read only". I cannot see any different between them.

Please help for this, any advise on it is highly appreciated.

Thanks.

Regards
Mandy

Hi,
the nine permission come from the union of the Alfresco Repository permission model plus the Share permission model.

Alfresco Repository permissions

Consumer can read content
Editor can read and edit content
Contributor can read and add content
Collaborator can read, edit, and add content
Coordinator can read, edit, add, and delete content (full access)

Share permissions

     Role/Permissions
———————————————–
Site Manager/Full Control
Site Collaborator/Read, Upload, Create, Checkout, Edit
Site Contributor/Read, Upload, Create
Site Consumer/Read

Hope this helps.

Andrea

Hello all.

Could I resurrect this post for further clarification please..

I understand from what Andrea has pointed out that the nine permission types are split between repo and share permissions. However what are the consequences of choosing one from the other from a share point of view.

I guess a simple way of putting the question is why would I select the site contributor role over the contributor role.

Maybe I'm over thinking this and its just a wording issue. Should they simply be treated as 2 separate roles with many overlaps, or would you advise that all share role allocations use the site * roles? If so why?

Thanks in advance all.
