WEBDAV Can't PUT files to server

Hi all,

first, I would like to say that Alfresco is a very nice application.  I have been using open source packages for many years.  This one is on the track to become one of those foundation packages.  It is a pleasure to use.

I am Running the latest stable Alfresco community and tomcat bundle 1.4.

I am running on Linux-Fedora C5.

My Issue:::

Regarding WebDav, I connect to alfresco OK (from win xp).  In WebDav, I can create folders, delete them, rename them, I can even delete files within the folders.  However, I CAN'T PUT FILES to the server through the normal drag-n-drop (or even copy paste).

I have checked my firewalls, routers, etc.  I have done a tcpdump.  I just cna't figure out why PUTs don't work.

I have been looking on the net and these forums all day.  i have found a number of people with the problem, but no apparent resolution.

Can anyone throw me a line???  Please?

Thanks!

Hi Matt,

Do you have IE set as your default browser ?, WebDAV on XP doesn't seem to work fully unless IE is the default.

Are there any errors in the Alfresco.log from the store attempts ?.

Cheers

There was a bug with PUT's i believe that got fixed for the enterprise edition of 1.4. This bug fix has not made it into the community edition yet.

Gary, Gavin,
Thanks for your replies.

My default browser is IE.  I make this my primary becuase I am dealing with a primarily Windows desktop user enviroenment.  Thanks for your commentary on that.

Gavin - Any idea when WebDav PUT will find its way into the Community release?  Any thoughts on how I could actually patch this in the interim?

Finally, what do you guys think about using CIFS for remote drag-n-drop?  Is it too slow for this?  Is WebDav preferred?

Thanks again for your input guys!

apparently it's fixed in the svn.  You would have to DL and build alfresco if you want to take advantage of it at this time (until the next stable release).

That's my understanding.

Matt,
Thanks for the info, I looked at the SVN source tree from Remote-API and PutMethod.java hasn't been changed after 12/01/06 and I looked at the version history and I could not find any versions either. I have built the remote-api.jar from the latest sources and the issue is not yet fixed.

Thanks
Ravikiran

Thanks for the feedback.
I was under the impression from another forum post somewhere within the Alfresco forums that it was fixed.  Sorry fif I put you on chase for naught.

FYI: I found that ftp seems to work for drag and drop (i use filezilla).  Also, I was able to get CIFS working (it seems unstable within Windows XP).  Further, I am not certain I am comfortable with the exposure to some of the "control" files that are within the folders and which have visibility when CIFSing into the spaces.  users could seemingly trash these (or at a minimum, it is confusing to them).

Just some FYI.  Also, I am very new to Alfresco, so I don't have a complete handle on the config of the system…yet.
My feedback come with no warranty Smiley Happy

Let me know if you have any updates on DAV.
