WCM Preview and content search...

I've installed the Alfresco 2.0 Preview and successfully worked thru the very fine WCM_BETA_Eval-Guide.pdf.

After creating the web project and press releases I wondered if the site content was indexed and searchable?

When I search for "Alfresco" or "Newton" I get the press release render engine ftl template and other data dictionary entities but none of the actual site pages under ROOT/media/release/content like Easypress_OEM.html or InterDoc_Alfresco_Solution.html. Both files contain "Newton" and "Alfresco."

An advanced search of html files under the "alfrescowww" space for "Newton" yields no results.

Does anyone know whether or not the site content should be searchable?

I'm new to Alfresco, so any helpful links to info on Alfresco search/indexing configuration would be appreciated!

Yes, our new 2.0 OpenSearch capabilities have not yet been extended to Web Projects (and noted on the wiki release notes page).  This is a core requirement for our maintanence release, 2.1, targeted for Preview end of March.

Let me know if more questions.

Oh great! I had not seen the OpenSearch page (here). This will be fantastic!

Looks like your OpenSearch capability is based on this standard: http://www.opensearch.org/Home. Is that correct?

Is Open Search working in the community release for 2.1?

Yes the issues with the query etc. have been fixed for 2.1.

Thanks,

I'm running Web Content Management community edition 2.1. I've seen posts indicating that search is supported for Web projects via the various APIs that Alfresco provides. That's good.

However, I'm still unclear as to whether the search toolbar or the opensearch dashlet should work while editing and managing content from within Alfresco.

I've worked through most of the Evaluation Guide (great introduction to WCM by the way) and managed to get everything working. However, if I use the search bar with a search term like 'management', which is in at least one of the press release examples, I get no hits at all.

Am I right in thinking that the search bar and the dashlet can't use the index from the sample web project created by following the instructions in the guide?  Or should this really work?

If it doesn't currently work, is there a plan to support this? Creating a dashlet for it could be ok, but having several different search tools, only one of which works is likely to be confusing for end users.

Thanks

You are correct, at present the standard Search UI in the web-client does not search the Web Project stores. Indexing of WCM content was added during the 2.1 development phase, but only the raw APIs and JavaScript/FreeMarker APIs were added as an interface to the Lucene results for WCM stores. The UI is still to be done, but it's definitely high on our list!

Thanks to the easy JavaScript/FreeMarker APIs, a dashlet could be created very easily as a starting point for now.

Thanks,

Kevin
