If not, is it possible to downgrade to the previous version without losing any content?

No.   That issue is not closed although someone has recently suggested a solution.

If the fix is that simple you are probably best off patching your build.

How viable of an option is it to just downgrade to a version that doesn't have that problem? The big issue would be trying to save all the content that I already created. Is that possible?
