VPS providers options for Alfresco install

Good afternoon.

I'm doing a research on reliable and, if possible, cheap VPS providers I can use to install Alfresco.

Customers (usually small companies) want to have servers out of their infra, but they want not to pay much for the service, and for this reason, AWS EC2 is out.

My idea is to use cheap servers, with backups kept on Amazon S3, because I consider this a reliable service.

If the server dies for any reason, at least I can count on the backup to re-establish the service somewhere.

Currently I use VPSDime - Cheap VPS Hosting to host my demo and development servers, but I can not use their VPS for production servers because of the disk size limitations.

With VPSDime you have to upgrade the server instance in order to have more disk available.

VPSDime works really well for this purpose.

I got two possible options so far, that are Cloud Computing – DreamHost and VPS Cloud RAM: Cloud hosting with enhanced RAM - OVH

Both providers offer more freedom when it comes to performance and disks.

Please, let me know if you have experience with this kind of servers, and what you recommend or do not recommend, and the reasons.

I'll keep this thread updated with my new findings.

Thank you so much in advance.

Hi Douglas,

we're actually using OVH which is quite reliable, for backup we use a NAS (100 GB) connected to the dedicated server. In this case it's not cloud stuff which I never tried, but as I see it seems cheaper.

Right now such dedicated server isn't available in OVH as it's an old offer so you cannot have a full details about it. The price is around 80 euro. (excluding NAS)

The server is an i5-2400 (3.10 GHz) 16 GB of RAM and 2TB of disk space.

I'm valuing better (tested) alternatives as well.

I found this one Dedicated server EG-16 | INFRASTRUCTURE Range - OVH , which I consider good enough for our clients use case.

And that one already includes a good space for backups, so, no need to attach another disk for this.

So far, the best option I have found.

Hi,

I don't know if it's available outside France but you could also look at SoYouStart (OVH Group) dedicated server : The server for all your projects - So you Start

There are a bit smaller than OVH.com dedicated server but also cheaper, for example this one : Server SYS-IP-1 - So you Start

Yes OVH should be available everywhere. SYS seems interesting..do you know experience with it?

My company got 2 SyS server.

The main difference between OVH and SyS is the services include with the server, for example KVM is not included in SyS offer.

The manager is more simple than OVH but works fine.

In the end the server are hosted in the same datacenter as OVH.

Thanks Yann Coulon for sharing that info.

Are those servers used for Alfresco deployment?

If so, how is the performance?

Can you add some numbers, like, number of users, repository size?

One of the two is for a client but not sure it's already in use. Don't have any information about the size in the future.

The other (Server E5-SAT-2-32 - So you Start)  is used for docker-based deployment for my company projects.

This runs several Alfresco instance in docker for non-performance related test, only small access windows and low size repo. I end up running 3 Alfresco container (all-in-one) smoothly maybe I can run more.

I didn't have any stats for large repo in daily use.

Awesome.

Please, let me know if you get more information about it.

Thank you so much for your contribution.
