Virus scanning

Hello,

I'm trying to get some information on virus scanning of incoming documents (must keep Sys Admin happy!)

What is the best way to address virus scanning?

Is there a way to scan all incoming documents before they get in?

Another thread on this (old one) says that files are stored on a disk… I thought Alfresco stores files in a DB?

Thanks!

I would think that a enterprise or server virus scanner that would scan the alf_data directory would be good and also have it set to scan incoming documents.

In regards to where Alfresco stores documents it is stored in the alf_data directory the database stores the revison and other information for the documents.

Hello,

We have noticed that during our testing that a virus scanner does indeed scan the alf_data directory (this was SAV).

You would have to check that your virus scanner was scanning these files though.

Hope this helps,

Steve

Make sure you exclude the lucene-indexes from the scanning process, they change frequently, but it doesn't make sense to actually scan them. It is a waste of processor cycles and will impact the performance of Alfresco.

What happen when the antivirus software delete the virus file. Will it effect integrity of alfresco database?

I'm nobody with any knowledge but I  am guessing it would….but I would also guess it would only impact the integrity of that document (which BTW has a virus so that's probably a good thing).

Do folders display correctly if you've deleted the content of one of the files?  I would guess that it would.  Try testing it!

Hmm, i think, the best way is an Action with virus checking feature inside Alfresco, like this: http://louise.hu/poet/?p=2016

You can configure quarantine handling by Alfresco Rules, notify message to document owner, etc.

Sorry to pull a very old thread and asking questions -

1) Is anyone facing these issues still and what is the resolution for it?
2) The reason I am asking these question is - we are trying to determine an Anti-Virus solution for the Alfresco server and we want to plan it out correctly and execute the same.

3) What is the best AV solution software for the Linux installation of Alfresco - which does its job well and works well with Alfresco.
4) If a file is removed, will it lead to any integrity issues. How do we handle it?

Any ideas and help will be of great help!! Any kind of best practices will be very helpful!
