I have registered users in my application.
I need to do orchestration using BPM.

Do I need to register my users into the activiti database?

Am sorry, There was a typo.

The states of the BPM are stored act_hi_taskinst table.
I understand that the ASSIGNEE_ is the field which would have the userID, applications registered user.
How should I do that?

You can assign the task to the user in your application. Activiti doesnot verify if the user is present in its db or not.
