Upgrading from 2.9C to 3.00Dev

Good morning guys

This morning I connected to the Wiki Alfresco Site, to the Nigthly Builds section looking for the last nightly build for 2.9C and I am not able to find it.

We are using the multi-tenant configuration in our work group (2.9C) over MySQL5 for Windows 2003 Server. The problem we have now is that we have exported a tenant from one of our "testing" machines and now we want to import it in our Server so we can work with it normally.

The problem we have is that when we inport the tenant in the Server we get an error which is caused by:
Caused by: java.io.IOException: Document rg/alfresco/sample/blogsearch.get.desc.xml does not exist.
at org.alfresco.repo.web.scripts.RepoStore$5$1.execute(RepoStore.java:413)
at org.alfresco.repo.web.scripts.RepoStore$5$1.execute(RepoStore.java:408)
at org.alfresco.repo.transaction.RetryingTransactionHelper.doInTransaction(RetryingTransactionHelper.java:236)
… 57 more

We have logged a bug for it, and the solution is that where it is said (first line)
Caused by: java.io.IOException: Document rg/alfresco/sample/blogsearch.get.desc.xml does not exist.
should be
org/alfresco/sample/blogsearch.get.desc.xml

So now we wanted to check if we could find a nigthly build for 2.9C where this is already fixed, but we are not able to find it, we find the new version 3.0.0C.

In the MT documentation it is said that to inport a tenant from one machine to another, both machines should have the same version or it will fail, also we are happy with the way the version 2.9C is working… Could we please:

a) Know where we can find the last nigthly build alfresco.war for Alfresco 2.9C?

OR

b) if we can not download the 2.9C and we have to upgrade for 3.0.0Dev : Will the Inport work if the tenant is 2.9C?  - Will the system works as fine as 2.9C?

Thanks a lot

Right, the 2.9C_dev series are not there anymore. It could it mean that Alfresco does not want to upgrade it.  (alfresco anyone?). I hope that if this is the case, then the 3.0 is upward compatible and includes all the 2.9 goodies: multitenant, quota, <runas>, …

Anyway, the last one published is from 23-april-2008. If you need it, I can give you acces to my copy.

Thanks a lot for the offer… I think my copy is also from that date. Did you already try the 3.0Dev version?

Cheers

No, I did not. I´m following the SVN updates and it sounds as they are still working out very basic details. Although it  sounds very promising and Alfresco engineers are very talented, it seems to me we are still some months away to be able to use 3.0 in a beta state.

That´s why it would be very important to get Alfresco to deliver a stable 2.9C since it seems that we are months away to be able to use 3.0.

Hi again

Did you get any new about a possible stable version for 2.9C?

Cheers

It seems that Alfresco released 3.0Beta and this is also 2.9C (i read it in the forums). However, I id no have the time to verify it AND to test that:

a) all new functionality in 2.9c_dev (multitenant, Quota, <runas>, …) is in 3.0Beta Labs

b) the release is stable enough to replace a "operational" 2.9B

My impression is that, if you want to replace a 2.9B or 2.9C_dev in "operation", it is better to verify a) and to wait for the second beta expected to be released in September.
