Community 4.2.c on sles11 which was installed with the installer. I see here:
http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/General_Upgrade_Process#The_Upgrade_Process

the general upgrade process. Does this hold true for 4.2.d? We dont have any special AMP's or patches at this time. Can i just follow that link for a proper upgrade?

It should work for you

Step 3 of the cold backup states:
Backup the Alfresco dir.root directory in its entirety.

Where is the dir.root directory? Not in /opt/alfresco or is it talking about the root of the alfresco install (which for me would be /opt/alfresco)?

It is talking about the alf_data directory. It should be under your Alfresco home directory which in your case I think is /opt/alfresco

Yea, i got that one, thanks. My "upgrade" has come to a stalemate! Step 3 of the restore process:
Restore dir.root.

Define "restore". What does that mean? Copy that dir (alf_data) to the new install (/opt/alfresco/copy old alf_data dir here? Thats what i did. Alfresco starts and i can login as admin into the share app but none of the existing users are there and none of the existing data is there.

Also, step 5 of the restore process:
Restore the database from the database backups and update statistics for all tables in the Alfresco schema.

I have restored the DB but how do you update statistics for all tables? I am using phpmyadmin (i can also use the cmd line on the mysql server if needed).
