Transform Rule Actions Not Transforming

Hi,

New Alfresco user here.  I am using Alfresco Community 1.4.0 (build-105).

I have created a Space with a rule to transform incoming documents to a variety of formats (PDF, Word, OO Writer, and text), with each output format having its own space to store transformed documents.

When I upload a document into the space with the rule it seems that the rule is triggered OK, but the documents are not actually transformed - they are only copied to the correct destination and have their file extension changed.  The actual content of the content is not changed.

I have Open Office installed as part of the Alfresco download (seems to be "OpenOfficePortable"), and there are no errors in the Alfresco log file or console.

Where am I going wrong?

All I can say is that I have the same problem.  I was trying to do plain text to  PDF.  The document was just copied to the target space with the destination changed.

I did not see any errors in any logs EXCEPT the one about the OpenOffice socket being "disconnected unexpectly".  The forum posted answer to that was that it would just reconnect.

I'll keep trying to debug.  Hopefully, someone who knows the answer will monitor this forum and help us.

I got mine to work.  However, I'm not sure how yet.  I got it to work by doing restarts on both my Tomcat and OpenOffice services.  I BELIEVE in that order.

I just set both services to manual start.  Next time I have a chance, I will start Tomcat.  Let it finish.  And then start OpenOffice.  If that works, I may try to set up a dependency on OpenOffice.

On Fedora Core 6, I noticed that if I did start_oo.sh before I started alfresco, my transformation to PDF worked.  I have moved the startup.sh in alfresco.sh to AFTER the start_oo.sh.  Next time I reboot, I'll see if this made a difference.

I don't know how much time there needs to be in between them.  If the above doesn't work, perhaps I'll experiment with that.

Actually, it does work in FC6.  Somehow, you need to smooth the interaction between oo startup and Alfresco start.  In my startup scripts, I start_oo and sleep 5 seconds.  Seems to work.  At least most of the time.
