Task notification in Alfresco

Is there an Alfresco internal way to be notified of a new task? Something like a window that pops up if a new task arrived? Or at least something like a blinking icon at the top of the Alfresco Web UI?
If not, what is the way to inform users that they have got a new task?

I like the idea of something popping up on the UI.     Like a little "you got mail" flag.   But its not there at the moment.  

What is there are the "my tasks" dashlets in the share and explorer interfaces.   

People also tend to use email to notify people of task assignment.
