support for tagging

i am wondering if catogory service could be extended to provide tagging,
what r the changes we need to implement to provide tagging.

What do you mean by tagging?

Think of a tag as a simple category name. People can categorize their posts, photos, and links with any tag that makes sense so that later thay can be searched using the tag name.

Have you seen the category labels in Alfresco? You can make your own categories in the Administration Console.

If you want a controlled set use categorisation.

You can search any attribute for any text. You could have a tag attribute, containing any text and search against it.
